Live Update: Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) voted on Friday in union elections, which will test the electoral fate of 12 candidates, who keep a watch on the top post in the politically active premises.

The Left All India Students Union (AISA), Indian Students Union (SFI), Democratic Students Federation (DSF) and All India Students Union (AISF) have come together to form a joint Left coalition.

The Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have also put up candidates and are looking to challenge the Left hegemony on campus.

Elections were held for the posts of president, general secretary, vice-president and joint secretary.

In the DUSU elections, the RSS supported Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three out of four posts on the panel, including the President, the Vice President and the Joint Secretary. The Congress student wing NSUI had to settle for the secretary’s post only.
